Conscious Breathing, Conscious Living
Breathing is something we all do, usually without thinking about it. It is an automatic process that gives us life. For me, breathing became a way to manage stress and find inner peace.
My First Step on the Breath Journey
My adventure with conscious breathing began at a time when I was going through a very turbulent period in my life. Just becoming a father of 2 kids, busy job, a household and relationships that all had to be maintained. It was a time when I felt overwhelmed by the demands of daily life. Anouk saw this and was busy with her own journey. This was all before Kakaw Spirit was founded. Anouk had once done a breathing session with: The Barefoot Dutchman. She offered me to follow a session too. This was completely out of my comfort zone for me but I still decided to go.
The Discovery of Breathwork
I entered the Yoga studio and actually felt completely out of place. I have been a personal trainer myself and have given many group lessons but this was a completely different world. After the session had started and I had taken the microdosing truffles I quickly calmed down. The session started quietly after which the breathing techniques became increasingly intense. I had really never experienced this before (and that only with breathing) my body tingled, I felt my heartbeat, it was as if I was in another world and for a moment I did not think about anything. When I came to I could actually only describe this journey with 1 word: intense.
Breathwork in my Life
I noticed after the session and in the days after that I had peace in my very busy head. Since that day I do breathing exercises almost daily. I end every fitness training with an exercise of a few minutes to calm my body. It doesn't always have to be a whole session, but a few minutes of paying close attention to my breathing already gives so much peace for the rest of the day. I am therefore better able to stay calm in stressful situations and to keep my emotions under control.
A Journey Without a Destination
My breathing journey is a continuous process of learning and growing. Every breathing exercise brings me new insights and shows me how deep the power of breathing can go. It is a journey without a destination, a journey that I continue with love and curiosity.
