My First Cacao Ceremony: A Journey to Inner Peace
It was Anouk who told me about cacao ceremonies she had done. This caught my attention and I started doing some more research to see what it would do for me. But to be honest, I didn't really know what to expect. It sounded intriguing, a ritual dedicated to pure cacao, but also a bit mysterious. Anouk invited me to join her and my colleagues Lester and Maurice for a ceremony with Rahel from the Soul Cafe.
The Preparation
Before the ceremony I was given a few instructions: eat light during the day, drink plenty of water and come with an open heart. The ceremony would take place at Rahel’s house , which has a beautiful space at home, decorated with soft cushions, candles and incense. The space immediately felt warm and inviting. We gathered in a circle and Rahel , an experienced ceremony leader, started with a short introduction about the history and significance of cacao in spiritual practices.
The Beginning of the Ceremony
We started with an introduction round and the question why you are here. Everyone has their own reasons to participate in a cacao ceremony. It creates a bond because everyone exposes themselves on an evening to people they actually don't know.
After this, Rahel prepared the cocoa that we were going to drink.
Drinking the Cocoa
When the cups of cocoa were handed out, I held mine in my hands and smelled the cocoa. The taste was intense and strong and it was heavy on my stomach.
The Journey Within
As the cacao began to work, I felt a gentle warmth spread through my body. My heartbeat seemed to beat in sync with the music playing in the background. Rahel guided us through a series of breathing exercises and visualizations, designed to bring us into deeper contact with ourselves.
I felt emotions welling up that I didn’t know were there: joy, sadness, gratitude, and a deep sense of connection. The cacao seemed to open my heart and allow me to look inside without judgment. I felt a deep connection with the others in the room, even though I didn’t know most of them.
The Completion
After what felt like an eternity but was probably an hour, Rahel began to close the session. We shared our experiences in the group and I was amazed at the power of the stories shared. Everyone seemed to be touched in a way that words could hardly describe.
As I drove home, I felt light and energized, but also deeply moved. It was as if the cacao had lifted a veil and given me a glimpse into a deeper reality, one in which I was fully connected to myself and the world around me.
Reflection
My first cacao ceremony was a journey within, a discovery of the healing power of nature and the deep wisdom that lies within us all. It was an experience I cherish and one that inspired me to learn more about this beautiful ritual and the rich traditions that are connected to it.
This was my first step into the world of cacao ceremonies and I look forward to many more journeys to come. With the cacao of Kakaw Spirit!
